The Story Behind a Berkshire Passion Project, as Featured in Edible Berkshires
Woodlife Ranch began as a labor of love on 60 acres in Williamstown and has since grown into more than 1,100 acres of preserved forest and farmland on the border of Hancock and South Williamstown. What started with a family garden and apple trees has expanded into a sugaring operation producing over 1,200 gallons of maple syrup a year, rows of espalier apple trees, berry patches, and beehives—all cultivated with a philosophy that some land is meant to be nurtured, not developed.
That ethos carries into Woodlife Farm Market, which brings the Ranch’s maple, honey, and harvests to the wider community. More than a place to shop, the Market features a kitchen serving chef-crafted comfort food, a deli, and a full meat and fish counter—alongside fresh produce and local provisions. It’s also a gathering space, hosting tastings, workshops, and seasonal events that connect people not only to good food, but to each other.
In this Edible Berkshires feature, discover how the vision for Woodlife grew from a single sugaring operation into a thriving farm market and community hub.
